SENIOR MOMENT UPDATE


Social Security Alert for Seniors – 180 Knights Way Ste. 100 (effective 3/21/11). Starting Aug. 15th the social security office will be open from 9:00 a.m. and closing at 3:30 p.m.
The toll free number for quick and easy ways to obtain information on specific services call: new number 1-888-717-1526. Seniors can now use phone to help with the following:
- Change of address or phone number
- Direct Deposit: new or a change
- Replacement Medicare card
- Benefit verification letter
- Replacement 1099
- Social Security Statement
- Replacement SS card
- Request pamphlets or forms
- File a claim

Veterans or Spouses of Veterans
On July 5th, Rick Patton started as the new veteran service officer at Veterans Service Office here in FDL. Former CVO for Taylor County and a former native of Waupun. He will assist veterans, spouses/dependents in obtaining available benefits from the U.S. Veterans Administration. He will offer assistance in home loans, education benefits, health care, state veterans cemeteries, burial benefits and emergency aid assistance. Office is located at 50 N. Portland Street in Fond du Lac and the phone is 929-3117.

Rural Development
Loan/Grant funds can be used for weatherizing purposes, electrical work, structural repairs, well work or other essential repairs.
Grant/Loan recipient must be 62 or older
Very Low Income Limits (check charts)
Applicants must have less than $10,000 in liquid assets
Need not repay until sell house – Call 907-2976

Home Repair
The City’s Community Development Department has rehabilitation loans available for homeowners in a limited area that qualify. These loans feature no interest ever, and no monthly payments. They are usually repaid when you decide to move or sell home. Call 322-3445. The Village of North Fond du Lac also has a similar program for residence in the Village of NFDL call 929-3765 and ask for Chris.

Furnaces, etc.

Weatherization - If you receive Energy Assistance you may also be eligible for weatherization services. Those services include: insulate attic, sidewalls & water heater. Repair or replace furnace and/or refrigerator, reduce air leakage and health and safety inspection. It is not limited to homeowners, if you're a renter or live in a mobile home, duplex or apt. building you may be eligible. Also, if you meet certain income guidelines you also could be eligible for central air-conditioning or wall units. Call: 1-800-323-0150 and ask for Weatherization.
Tomorrow’s Home Foundation – Help Hand Assistance Program – Mobile/Manufactured Home Assistance – This program provides assistance to low-income factory-built homeowners that need critical home repairs. Eligibility guidelines exist. Please call Julie at 929-3521 for more information.
