SENIOR MOMENT UPDATE

Federal Stimulus Payment
1. People need to file federal form 1040a in order to receive the rebate. It is not automatic.
2. “Stimulus Payment” needs to be written on the top of the 1040a form.
3. Forms can be obtained through FDL Senior Center, Public Library and Senior Services.
4. If people have already filed 2007 taxes (State and Federal) they are automatically going to be receiving the rebate. Nothing more needs to be done.
5. Anyone making over $3,000 in income such as social security, pensions, railroad retirement and the like will be eligible for a $300.00 rebate. People on straight SSI will not be eligible for this rebate.
6. People have until October 15, 2008 to file for this rebate.
7. The rebate will not be subject to tax nor will it be counted against any aid/assistance programs.

8. If you live in Wisconsin the 1040a form needs to be mailed to:
Department of the Treasury
Internal Revenue Service Center
Fresno, CA 93888-0015
Assistance is available September 15th starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Fond du Lac Senior Center. Please call them at 322-3630 to register.

Check Scams – There have been reports of people receiving fraudulent checks that look like they are from the Alzheimer’s Association. If you receive a check do not attempt to cash it and please call 1-800-272-3900. The checks are for $3,400 and they look like they are from Alzheimer’s Association and Wachovia Bank. The checks include the national office address and the helpline number. Watch out!
